i'm new to bettas and fish keeping. we went with a betta for several reasons, one of which was ease of care. well, we've had bruiser for about two weeks and have already had to deal with a fungus. today i noticed his fins looked diffrent, and not in a good way. not sure if it's from tail biting, fin rot, or something else. any thoughts would be appreciated :)

It looks like a little bit of biting at the top of his tail.

Crown tail rays, however, are sensitive to hard water and tend to curl when exposed to it. It doesn't affect their healthy, just their looks.

As far as the biting goes, just keep the water warm and clean along with feeding a high protein diet. Give him a bottle cap or some other form of exercise/stimulation and hopefully he'll stop. A small hand mirror for flaring is another good thing for exercise, but only do it for a few minutes a day.
