My Flick has a strange behavior:)

He builds a bubble nest, then just hangs under it for hours waiting for something...

It is "where is at least one female, it's time to breed now"? behaviour?

Or is he just tired of me?

It's perfectly normal behavior for a sexually mature male Betta. Doesn't signify anything beyond that.

Thank you - it is just so sad to see him hanging up there and waiting and waiting and waiting.....

(oh, went to give him his deserved treat....)

Do you have a floating betta log? Or a clean (not washed with soap, just well-rinsed) pingpong ball? Or plants that lay on the surface, or a hammock?

You can break the IAL up into pieces. An intact leaf isn't necessary for the tannins to leach to the right color.

My males have always built bubble nests under a whole IAL

Ha, he has two floating logs all for himself. One is his regular house and a dining room. Another one under a heater as his weekend summer house :))) I will take a photo of aquarium a bit later. But, great suggestion on ping pong ball. Will buy it for him too. Thank-you!

He's built his nest, and protecting his babies maybe :) so cute.

Side note: what does a ping pong ball do???
