I tried regular black Petco sand but it raised my ph to over 9 and I lost all my fish. I took it back to the store and they gave me my money back through a gift card so I could by different sand. Which Petco sand should I get? Here are the 2 that I have been considering.

Which one of these is better for a planted tank? I need something that is for sure not going to affect the ph.

well the first one says it will NOT increase pH
I can't find where it says that, but I'm sure it does. If this is the case, then I will go with the 1st one. Has anyone ever used these sands before?

today, i just switched my sand to "super naturals moonlight sand' for the first time. I LOVE IT> ITS GORGEOUS! I barely had to clean it, and but it did drop my ph about 0.2 degrees. My betta loves it too, and i might even get some cories!!!

i have a whole thread on it WITH PICS

Where did you get the sand? I can only get sand from Petco, because that's where the gift card is. It's good that it dropped the ph though because my tap ph is at 7.5 which is still kind of high. Cories are really fun, so I'm getting them for my 20 gallon too.

I love your tanks too! The decorating and substrate mixes are great. I never thought about mixing sands before, but that looks really cool.

leopard, i got the sand from petsmart, but i am pretty sure petco carries it.
It is SUPER FINE and feels like flour when dry, beach sand when wet. Believe it or not, it barely clouded my water, there is a white and black version and i have the white version.

also, my ph is 7.8 with moderately hard water with high akalinity, do you think the cories should adapt? they are raised in the same water as mine at the lFS i am pretty sure....good luck!

I'll look into that sand. I think the cories should be fine in that water. They will be adapted the the ph by now and my ph is around 7.6 with super hard water (180ppm) and they were fine in there. Be sure you get at least 3 though.
