Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? white rings around eyes, looks like connective tissue but it DID NOT look like this a few hours ago. pale ring around his nose that looks the same, nothing fuzzy or fungus like just very pale. A bump between his eyes/ over his nose where the scales have raised a bit. Otherwise normal looking, problem is all in the face area.
How has your betta fish's behavior changed? Not that I can tell.
When did you start noticing the symptoms? a few hours ago they just suddenly appeared out of no where.
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? No
Does your fish have any history of being ill? He's had bouts of minor fin rot and can be a tail biter on occasion but nothing serious.
How old is your fish (approximately)? I've had him for about five months I think.
I'm hesitant to post usually because I see one little thing and start worrying he has this or that but 99 percent of the time that's just me over reacting. Thought he had velvet once but after close inspection that was just his natural color under improved conditions. But this time I'm really worried. If it had just been the rings around his eyes I might have waited to see if it would go away on it's own but the raised scales on his nose are what frightens me the most...I'm hoping maybe he just bumped it or something. He's always poking at the gravel with his face looking for food anyways or maybe a ghost shrimp nipped at him? He's so non aggressive usually I've never seen him snap at them or the snail he lives with. I haven't added anything new recently either. On top of this I'm going to be away for the weekend and I don't want to leave him under bad conditions if something is seriously wrong. ;n;
I googled a lot trying to find pictures or other people who had this problem too and I came across a few descriptions very similar to this but no one seemed to have a real answer for what it was. His eyes aren't swollen either so I dont think its popeye. They're still normal sized.
