Why should I use a moss ball?

I have been thinking about getting a mossball for one of my betta tanks, i just want to know why i should get one. Does it help keep the tank clean? Or is it just ornamental? If it helps keep bettas healthy then i would like to get one, so what should I do?

From what I understand it is very slow growing and hardly needs any light, so although it will feed on some of the nitrates, it is not going to do anything on a test kit chart for water condition. If you get one it will be more for the decoration aspect than what it will do for your water quality, Your fish might like it, but not really any more than the fake plants you can get. The other thing to consider when you add any type of real plant life into your tank is the possible risk of parasites etc.
Yeah, my pet store people says that it keep your tank clean. But we all know that they really dont know what there saying;-) I will use that money to get heaters:)
In Japan, some people keep marimo as 'pets'. Personally, I think they're cute, so I like having it as a decoration. Ahti almost completely ignores it, although I have seen him start resting on it lately. I've heard of some fish playing with them, especially if they're getting enough light to float to the surface.

Yeah, I may get one to help keep my bettas from getting bored, I am saving for 3 heaters, 2 moss balls, and one cave decor onament, so my priorities have to be focused on maybe the heaters first

Heaters should always be a first priority. I was lucky enough that room temperature was nice and stable, if a tad on the low side, when I first got my tank and was waiting for my heater to ship.

I agree completely
