Wild Bettas round 2. Simplex?

Since my Hendra pair passed away (SIP little ones...), I've been thinking of getting another pair of wilds. I don't really want to get Bettas from the Coccina complex again, not because I don't like them or something, but because I don't even know what happened to my Hendras. What if it happens again? They're supposed to be the most difficult complex of wilds, don't want to risk killing any fish again! We shall not forget that they're endangered in the wild. So, I talked to my mother and explained her that there are not many wilds that can go in a 6 gallon. So she let me get a 15 gallong, 60 * 30 cm. I was thinking of getting a pair of Betta Channoides or Albimarginata, they're supposed to be one of the easiest wilds, but then... Looking at the IBC, I saw the Betta simplex. I instantly fell in love with them. The tank will look something like the tank I have for my rams, and I'll also put 3 clay pots in there, the ph will be about 7.5. Don't even have the tank yet, but that shouldn't be an issue. Now I have a question about them. Some sites write they reach 8 cm, and some others 5. What's their real size? (Just a note, nothing is gonna happen right now, after all the lfs will need a few months to get the simplex pair).

I don't have much experience with wild betas but when the sites are kind of contradicting each other on the same topic, I would go with 8 to 5 cm or look at a bunch of sites and see which one is shown more. Hopefully someone with more expertise in the genre of wilds can help

Hmmm. Unfortunately I am not sure what size they reach though I would would likely trust 8 more than 5. They seem pretty similar to my Betta edithae, I think you’d enjoy keeping simplex if they’re anything alike. I also agree that it would be best to go with more forgiving species, having to stress a lot about very specific parameters can get overwhelming very quickly.

If they actually reach 8 cm, they'll be by far the biggest fish I've ever kept. Lol.

I know, they are quite similar to your Edith's. And have equally cute lil faces!🥰

Tbh, I really enjoyed trying to get the parameters right etc, but I want to go with more forgiving species to make sure that I'll be able to keep everyone alive this time.

Found an awesome tank. The owner sells it for 30 euros (!). I'm hoping to get it tomorrow evening. And what's the best about it? It's sold as a 15 gallon while it's actually a 20! So I'll get a bigger tank without my parents even knowing! lol. It's 63*28*41 cm.

Honestly, one of the easiest to keep are bettas in the unimaculata complex. They have withstood some of my biggest mistakes in fishkeeping 😅. Hardy little beasts. And so much affection to eachother once they are an established pair. One of my ideii-pair are the cutest couple ever! True love right there. Just think about it 😊

I love unimaculatas soooo much!!! But it wouldn't be fair to keep them in a 20....

But.... We neeeeed to see pics of your wilds!!! What wilds do you currently keep and what wilds have you kept in the past? How many years have you been keeping wilds? And what, if any, is your favourite species? Hope you don't mind all those questions 😂!!

Sorry for the late reply.
I currently have 1 established pair of Pallifina and 2 established pairs of Ideii.
The Ideii I have are small and goes well in 20 as do my Pallifina. The important thing is the lenght and width of the aquarium and not the gallons really.
Oh and currently 150 pallifina juveniles and 2 batches of newly hatched ideii, with one of the males holding again 😳.
I have had wild bettas since november-21 but had to learn fast 😂.
My pallifina juvies are almost tame, they swim into my hand and lies there 🙂. But lazy af lol. Ideii are more mischievious 😁. All in all I found my perfect fish with Ideii. ❣ They can be really fderpy 😁
Ill share some pictures of them 🙂 4 first are ideii and last 4 pallifina.
