I bought this guy a month or so ago and thought he was a delta tail. Today I noticed that his tail is split directly down the middle.

He is in a 5 gallon Chi tank with heater at 80 degrees also 1 Nerite snail. Water chem checks out perfect and I feed him varied foods, NLS Betta pellets, freeze dried blood worms occasionally and frozen brine shrimp.

Other than the tail he seems fine.

Are there any plants in the tank that could cause his fins to split? My roomie has a Derpy fish that like the face dive into plants and is constantly healing from splits.

I guess that could be the case. I could have sworn that his tail was solid when I bought him but he was kind of small and my eyesight is not very good.

Thanks, that's what I thought. I'm going to remove the fake stuff and redo the tank with live plants. Is there anything to worry about with the split tail?

Just keep the water clean and warm to avoid infection.

If, after you get your live plants, he gets another split fin, well, it's that way sometime. <sigh>

I meant to update this some time ago. His tail is completely healed and he's doing great.
