This is Zuko, he lives with a male and female african dwarf frog, three peppered cory catfish, and six nerite snails in a 8.75 Gallon half-planted tank! Everyone gets along swimmingly 🥰

Yes, from what I've understood, since bettas are territorial, if they are established in a tank already and you add a community, then the betta will think they are intruding his domain. If you introduce the betta last, there is a lot lesser chance of agression!
