Here’s my 10 gallon that I plan to rehome some fish and give my fish more space and a heater and filter

I’m keeping my two girl bettas and probably my Neon tetras I’m going to buy two dividers and at each end put a divider and my males will live on the ends and will have about 2.5 gallons each and then the middle will be 5 gallons for the girls they get along really well and I don’t have to worry about them but I do understand some females are very aggressive mine are good friends though they swim together all and are actually less aggressive than my platys

but in the future I won’t be keeping two girls

I would make sure the girls are good and not fighting for a while before you add the males. Sororities aren't even recommend for anything less then a 20 gallon and 4 fish. You have made it work so that is really great though (good for you). It is really hard to do a sorority and its amazing you've made it work with only 2 fish and a smaller amount of space! Also please don't rehome the platys. They are really amazing little fish. The will do better in tank by themselves so they have more room. A 10 gallon will work I for 3-5 platies with no other fish or you can get a bigger tank and add some other fish. They are really good fish though. Please give them a longer chance!

A 10 gallon, by the time substrate, decor, plants, equipment and dividers only holds 6-7 gallons of water. Measurements are for the outside of the tank so not accurate when assessing true gallons. The males would have less than two gallons and the females 3-4. My males in a divided 10 have around four gallons each.

Sororities have more of a chance of success if they are at least five in a tank that is 75% planted. Some will do five in a 10 but a 20 long is better.

Also, do not be lulled into false complacency. Betta are unpredictable fish and just because they seem to co-exist now doesn't mean it will continue. Once they reach sexual maturity all bets are off. Very few sororities are long-term successes (as in years and not months). The only one I know of is a friend's 40 gallon breeder that is 75% planted; it has been running for six or seven years now. She is a long-time aquarist and recognizes things are wrong before the Betta know it. That's why her sorority is a success.

I would have loved a 20-40 gallon maybe some day though! I also soon after realized it wasn’t enough space for the girls I’m keeping the tank like this and adding more plants and females

I’ve seen many people successfully keep 5 females in a ten gallon for years, if it goes happens to go wrong I have enough tanks for the females

BTW, Green Leaf Aquariums has a great sale going on. To guarantee live arrival you must have them sent 2nd or Next Day UPS. Anubias, Crypts, potted stem plants, Java Ferns for $3.00. I added what my order cost + 2nd day and it made them $4.50 each. Which is, IMO, still a good price. But mine was a pretty big order.
