Some good and some bad.
I wandered to the fish section to find that there was a huge, new shipment of bettas. I was just checking on their well being, when HOLY CRAP I noticed that someone put a poor female and a male in the same tank! :blueshake:
No, not cup, tank! Like the same ones that they have their other fish in...I quickly flagged someone down, who was just as shocked (though she was currently in charge of the fish at the time) and she quickly scooped the male out. His fins were tattered and full of pinholes...he was a mess, but he had plenty of attitude. I thanked her profusely, and then asked her why they were together. "I'm so sorry, I really have no idea. Someone has been putting bettas in these tanks, and we haven't caught that person yet. But when we do, they're going to be in trouble." I nodded and thanked her again, and she walked off. Then, I turned my attention to the fish above the supply cabinet, and found a poor guy in low water! His cup was cracked and leaking everywhere, so I pulled out my little bottle of prime, found an extra cup, and filled it with water (and a drop of conditioner.) I put him in, and made sure he was fine before I moved on to the others. All seemed well, and as I was walking away.....I noticed MORE bettas in the filtered tanks!!!!!! And with goldfish, tetras, and all kinds of fish in super small spaces! All of these guys were clearly agitated, and so I flagged her down again, and she kindly helped them out, or most of them; at some point, I had to go, but she promised me that she would go to the back for more cups because they ran out in the front. I thanked her even more, and walked away. I know that these places are terrible for bettas, but I'm glad she's on the job. She really seemed to care about the well being of her charges. I wish more employees at these big stores would.
Also, I hope they catch the jerk who seems to think it's a good idea to do these things to those poor fish. He deserves to be fired.
