Air pump to many bubbles

I have the air pump that came with the aquaview 360 from walmart. I think my fish kinda liked the air pump, but it seemed like it was producing way to many bubbles at the top. Within hours the whole top was filled with them. Is there something wrong with it? Or is it just not a good pump? Or is there something with the water? It just seemed my fish was a little more active when it was running, but I was afraid with all the bubbles he couldn't get up to breathe.
So is it okay to run it, or should I just leave it off?

Well, for a quick fix, you could be the tube connecting the pump to the airstone, that will decrease the amount of bubbles coming out. Or you can get a valve (I'm blanking on the name) and you can decrease the flow as well.
I wouldn't be too worried, though. When bettas are happy, they create bubblenest on top of their water, so it could encourage him to make on of his own.
