Hi
I have an older male crowntail betta in a 6 gallon planted aquarium, and recently I have seen his activity levels decrease drastically. Even though that is expected of an older fish to be less active, I don't believe that's the cause, as whenever I am close to the tank he goes back to being his usual self of an energetic and playful fish, even after feeding time so that leads me to believe it is due to boredom. I flare him almost daily, although he now does not pay much attention to the mirror. I interact with him as much as possible, and I have taught him a few tricks, but he still looks really bored as he spends most of his time resting and sleeping. I now would like to add that he has two nerite snails in the tank but he doesn't even care to look at them, an he also has two amanos that he doesn't particularly mind, although he has attacked multiple cherry shrimp. So my question is, what tankmates would you recommend for an older betta (that doesn't acknowledge snails and amanos as living beings, but hates cherry shrimp) in a 6 gallon aquarium that has been running for a long time, has two filters on it (one is a working sponge filter and the other is an internal that I keep just for the beneficial bacteria) that is pretty well planted, and I will also be adding even more plants in the very near future?

Its quite A small tank for any fish... You could try Rock shrimp, they get bigger and he may notice them. Maybe an endler guppy but theres not much you can put in a 6 gallon tank. The smallest i would go for fish with betta fish is ten gallons. May we see pictures of the tank

I am not familiar with rock shrimp, are they in any way related with bamboo shrimp? Endlers were one of my first considerations, would you think two males would be good as betta buddies? As for a better description of the aquarium, half of the aquarium on the left side is completely covered with three large crypts, reaching to the surface and creating multiple spots for him to rest on. This side also has the sponge filter as well as a medium sized rock. On the right side, things are more barren, with only a small piece of wood, two anubias, and the internal filter, that provides a place for him to hide behind, this is the side he has built all of his bubble nests in.

I dont believe they are, but in some cases, they could be... I would go with bamboo shrimp if thats nnear you. Two male endlers would be constant nipping and picking at eachother, casuing stress on both of them. But it has been done as well. So potentionally, it could work.

Definet;ly get a ramshorn snail! It may or may not interest ur betta but, WHo can say no to ramshorns?
Right? Impossible to say no to ramshorns! Then again, we are all betta keepers here and bettas and snails are a package deal😌 So how many should I start with, and what about breeding? Thanks again for all the feedback!!!
