Hello everyone;
I have a bone collection and I was wondering if it would be ok to put a few pieces in with my betta and snails?
They are all from outside and have been bleached and then washed off with hot water several times.
The main thing I'm worried about is it raising the pH level.
Would this be possible?
I have a few pieces that would make a Really cool tank...but not if they will do anything to my babies.
Thanks for any info. :)

How much do you like the bones? I would try putting them in a jar with water (and a jar with just water next to it for control), and then doing daily tests with your PH test kit.

Though I do think you will probably have to deal with them degrading.

I wouldn't do it, they are still a live thing, in your tank. Bones in water will decomp over time and they would do the same in a tank. Just not worth it I think.I dunno, Google what happens to bone in water for a period of time. See if it releases anything?

lol i hear ya, it is an aquired taste.i know people who will make thier own specimens from roadkill they find and put in the back of a truck, and let bugs eat out back, then the hands-on work starts. i... well lets just say id be kicked out of my basement suite if i tried that LOL

protip: do not use bleach to bleach bones; use peroxide. bleach will make it crumble.

I like learning about things and that's why I started and on my walks found quite a few so thought, eh why not...Although my first chinchilla got out one night and ate over half I was sooo pissed. (it didn't even phase the guy, NOTHING changed in habit, poop, or water and food intake.)

crezelad: I only do it for a few minutes, but thanks, when I started I all I had was bleach and the folks weren't willing to buy me anything else.
