Just wanted to come on and show the brand new tank I just got set up🥰 I’m super happy with how it turned out!!! I might replace the plant in the front left, not sure yet.

also quick question while I’m here, any sort of DIY way I can make the LED light dimmer on this new tank lid? It’s soooo bright lol

Ohhh, that’s lovely! Some little fish is going to be very happy in there!

It looks like you’re using silk plants. Since your plants don’t need the light you could really just leave it off unless you’re actively watching your fish. Fish are fine without the light and leaving the light on will just encourage algae growth.

You could also use indian almond leaves, or plain roobois tea, which will darken the water naturally. The lights will still be strong, but the darker water is soothing for your betta.

Floating plants would help lower the light level reaching the tank water, with the added bonus that they quickly absorb ammonia/nitrite/nitrate.

Or maybe you could cover the light with a water resistant tape? Or a dot of latex or acrylic paint? I’m reaching at this point

It looks great! I like that you added the tall decorations and plant on the side without the filter and the lower stuff under the filter flow, you really thought ahead for the comfort of a betta for a good chill spot! If you get floating plants I recommend frogbit it doesn’t mind a little splash of water on it leaves, salvina and red root floaters don’t seem to like getting splashed on top. Your filter will push them to the left above the little house too. I recently came across some pennywort when shopping for aquarium plants and it is doing well as a free floating plant in my guppy tank. It would make a nice addition to your setup if you can find some. 👍🏻

Agreed about the salvinia minima (aka water spangles) and red root floaters. The ones I have in my very very low flow tanks are really taking off. Those that I have in my tank with a stronger water flow aren’t as happy. I’m thinking of baffling that filter a bit or getting some sort of barrier to protect them a bit.

I actually do have some live plants in there as well, an Anubias, couple Java ferns and some moss balls :) But those are some great ideas, thank you!!! And thanks so much, I worked hard on it so I’m very happy with how it turned out :) I’ve always wanted to try floating plants!
Ack! Yes. Now I see them. So you will need some lighting. Oops!
Then I’d go with the IAL for tannins, or the floating plants. Or both!!!

Yes fishing line will work as would zip ties. Can also use superglue as long as it is Cyanoacrylate based. (i use these super glue gels for my reef tanks, as soon as it hits water it becomes completely inert. So you would need to add some to the area you want to attach and then push and twist (breaks the film that forms so the glue can then set)
