Can I leave a blue light on the whole night?

Since i first got my betta, he has been constantly hitting himself on the tank and tearing his fins on his gravel because when I turn off my lights it's completely dark and he can't see. Somehow he's still awake and still swimming. Immediately when I turn my lights off, it shocks him and he swims erratically around the tank, damaging his fins.

Can I prevent this by keeping his blue tank light on the whole night? Or would this be bad for him?

That's good to hear he isn't flashing ! Yes, he does. Yesterday I left the blue light on and it worked really well ! I'll try it out again today to see if it works.

But it's not just the dark that makes him do that flashing-like swimming. He also does that if he gets spooked, like you said. I think he'll be fine though, so thank you!

If he was flashing (sudden movements touching objects or substrate and darting away) he would do this no matter what time of the day, light settings or your own movements.

However, if you‘re unsure, you could always upload a video on a video platform and post the link here using the chain link symbol.
