Clear Things Floating In Tank? Help Please!!

So my tank has had water etc. for almost 4 months but just no fish. I just recently turned the filter, heater, etc. back on and all seems well. Until today, I got my fish in the mail and was floating him in the tank. I was just about to release him and noticed clear white looking things floating around the whole tank. To me they look like little pieces of plastic?? Though I have no idea how that would even be possible.

They even stick to the walls after they settle. So for a temp home I have put my Betta into a bowl. (which I am not happy about but don't feel safe introducing him to the tank at the moment).

Please help my Betta and me figure out what's going on with the tank. Thank you all in advance.

That might be a protein film, which is completely harmless. I used to have a problem with that when I used smaller tanks with a Tetra whisper filter because the surface would stay stagnant. A protein film is pretty clear and looks like super thin plastic. Someone else might have another answer, but could you supply any pictures??

Oh that would make me feel SO much better if it is just a protein film. That would make sense too because the tank sat with water for about 3 months before I turned the filter on again. I also just changed some of the water to try and get ride of some of it but its still in there.

Ok so I did my best to get pictures, though really hard with how small they are.

EDIT TO ADD: There was chucky pieces but now they look more like sparkles in the tank.

I'm still not absolutely sure if it's protein film, especially since for me it only ever floated on the surface. If no one else answers, you could always try a 100% water change and rinse out the filter real well with hot water, try to clear it all out. I'd imagine that because the water sat stagnant for 3 months, something must have built up.

Oh boy, so I just got done doing 100% water change cleaned everything with HOT water. Just checked the tank and it seems better but still have the clear plastic looking floats. Not as much but they are still there. So now I would feel better just replacing the rocks and the tan ornament to be safe.

Then doing another 100% water change and see how that does.

Will do Sadist! :)

And thanks I will try that Aeon. I went to our pet store and bought some new stones (instead of the rocks) think they will look better with my new Betta too! Anyways got the new stones and 2 new decorations. Though I will defiantly be soaking the old rocks instead of throwing them away as I would like to know what caused this.

I'm hoping to do another 100% water change tonight, then adding my new stones and décor. Of course after they have been cleaned in hot water very well and see how that does. As I would love to get my Betta into the tank asap as I HATE to have him in such a small bowl. But better to be safe than sorry. :)

Will post as soon as I do another water change.

BTW every time I do a 100% water change I always add stress coat+ is that ok?

So I have done a 100% water change again, took out all rocks and Ornaments. Put in new stones and a few ornaments (bought another just waiting for it to arrive in the mail).

Great news! There are no more clear plastic looking things in the tank! Thank goodness! So it was either the rocks or the ornaments. I'm afraid to use the old ornaments in fear they may have something to do with it as well as the rocks.
