Frozen food paste?

I recently bought Kanaplex to try to heal my betta's fin rot- nothing else has gotten rid of it completely and to just have it on hand. I read on the instructions that you can add it to a frozen food paste and use as treatment that way. Has anyone tried the Kanaplex this way? What is the best way to go about making a frozen food paste? Also if you have used this method, did you find that it worked better this way?

It would work better.
You can blend salmon up and mix in the medicine, and some water then add gelatin to it...
I do think you can also do this with pellets...
I'm not sure, all my recipe pages have disappeared and I can't remember that well.

Petco sells San Francisco Bay brand frozen cubes of bloodworms and brine shrimp - once defrosted, its a 'paste' rather than a cube. Just defrost on the counter, dont microwave or dunk it in hot water as it can destroy a lot of the nutrients in it.

I buy the Freshwater Medley pack for 7.99, which is 4 rows of cubes of varied types - pure bloodworms, pure brine shrimp, and the 2 mixes -- a bloodworm/brine/daphnia/garlic mix, and a brine/krill/plankton mix. It works well and gives them a nice varied diet - I'm sure it would mix well with medication.

I do have frozen cubes of brine shrimp and also of daphnia. Any idea how many I could use and then about how much to feed? I wouldn't want to overdose him if I tried this. With all the problems I have had with the tap here I live and his fin rot and buoyancy issues, I would hate to feed too much by accident and give him something else to stress over! Thanks for responding Olympia and sugarunicorn!

This Recipe makes about 5 cups gel food for Goldfish you will have to modify the recipe for your perpuses will not need all the Veg

1 cup kale
3/4 cup mustard greens
3/4 cup colliard greens

Add 1.5 cups water to blender. Place the calcium, vitamin C and the multivitamin in to soak.

Blanch kale 1.5 cup of water. reserve water for dissolving the gel.

Add mackerel, paprika, and veggies to blender. Blend well.

For sinking food:
Pour blended ingredients into bowl.

Add gelatine mixture to bowl and stir until well mixed
Pour into flat shallow container(s) to make a depth of 1/4".
tap container gently to remove any trapped air bubbles.

For floating food:
Bring water used to blanch veggies to a boil and dissolve gelatine.
Pour gelatine mixture into blender and blend until well mixed.
Pour into flat shallow container(s) to make a depth of 1/4".

Refrigerate until set.

Cut into squares. I leave out a week's worth of gel in a plastic zipper bag and store in the refrigerator. The rest I freeze between layers of plastic wrap. When frozen, I store in the freezer in ziplock bags (each holding about a week of food)

Rickey- jut so I have this correct, I would leave out the broccoli, kale and greens?

MattsBetta- thank goodness my two frozen foods are not that brand! I worry about this little fish enough, I don't want to worry about this too! :)

My best friend mentioned that since the fin rot is not an internal problem that feeding him a mix with Kanaplex in it probably wouldn't be as good as using it in his tank. Curious what anyone's thoughts are on this? I am giving my poor fish a break from everything for a few days right now. I have tried the jungle fungus cure in between finding out my tap water was so high in ammonia. He was finally making improvements slowly, but last week where I tote his water from switch over to well water for a few days and I did not know. I just assumed that it was still city water. I know shame on me, I should have tested it anyway! Lesson learned. I now have him in good clean water and I am hoping that Buddy will start looking better with just that alone and doing daily changes to keep it clean. But in case he doesn't I am just asking about the frozen paste. Thanks guys and girls, I really do appreciate all your help!
