Giant Betta Growth rate

Hey All,

I have had my giant dragon scale for about a month. I just wondering what kind of growth rate I can expect or how long will it be for him to reach "giant" size. I realize that max size may vary and not all giant bettas become giants but I just want to know from experienced keepers. He is in a 10 gallon by himself with an AC30 power filter and weekly 30% water changes.

Thanks!

These giants seem to mature a good bit slower than the littles. How old is your boy?
I am actually not sure... I am going to ask the person I got him from.

Although giant size is genetic, their maximum size is highly dependent on feeding and water quality during the first few months after hatching. It is recommended that they are kept in bigger and filtered tanks and fed as often and as much as they will eat. They have tremendous appetites and will devour 2 – 3 times more food than their regular sized cousins. They must reach 5-6cm/2.5” (BO) by 4 months, 7’-8cm/over 3’ (BO) by 6 months (good giant genes can grow 4cm in 2 months, 6 cm in 3 months). Otherwise it’s unlikely they will reach the maximum size of 12cm/-5’ (BO).
Boy don't i know about appetite! My two eat 3 times what my littles do. I have the male in a 20 long and he LOVES it. My girl is in a ten and she uses every bit of it.
I am really glad to hear you guys post this because he certainly has an appetite. I know most people here have regulars and they give them like 3 pellets at a time but my guy easily eats 3x that! Its good to hear I am not over feeding him he just goes through them so quickly.

I have read elsewhere to feed five or six meals over a day because Giant Betta more easily bloat.
They both have been getting fed several times a day. They get New Life Spectrum small fish, it's very dense nutrition, frozen brine shrimp and a few frozen bloodworms. I have found, with both giants, they eat till they're satisfied and neither one eats till thier tummy is noticeably round, which is kind of frustrating with her because I want her fat and eggy. :/ But she's young still.
Yea mines is getting no type of tummy and he defiantly eats quite a bit so I was worrying if I was feeding him enough?

Yea I have gotten one of the same measuring tapes from the store the other day. It looks like he is actually 3in total body length which is pretty good. I am going to try and get a more accurate measurement. I think I will try and move him to a 15 gallon tank over the summer.
