My nephew saw my koi galaxy betta and wanted one for himself. So i got my nephew a normal red halfmoon betta as his first fish. As koi galaxy are rare where i live. And had to be ordered directly from a breeder and so not very easy to get. And as this is my nephews first fish, i told him that if he takes care of this one well, i would get him a good koi galaxy later.
And so he had his in a bowl. And as i posted previously, my betta had slightly hazy eyes. So i read that salt and clean water should help fix this. I found that i can use upto 3 table spoon of salt for 15 gallon tanks. So i mixed a little above 2 table spoon of salt in a small botlle around half litre. i use this for mixing conditioners or medications and then pouring int the aquarium. And i left it there and went to the next room to take the siphon and bucket to drain from my tank. When i came back just a few seconds later, my nephews betta was in the salt water bottle. I had told him that salt was to help my betta. So he put his betta into this salt thinking this would be good for his betta. It was only a few seconds. But the betta was already on its side..
I immediatly picked him up and put him in clean water. put an air stone and a lot of indian almond extract. This was last night.
HE was having trouble staying upright. He was having trouble breathing. He was not moving his gill flaps much. Only taking shallow breaths through his mouth.
And now in the morning, he is doing a bit better. Swimming very slowly. I gave him a couple of pellets of food which he readily ate. Other than that, he is very lethargic. He is staying near the top and just breathing very shallow. His gills are barely moving.

IS there anything that i can do to help him?

Put Your betta to fresh-clean water, low depth (5-7cm), and put almond tree leaves (not extracted one), so he can rest on top of that, u can replace it with rock, or whatever he can lean to it. Its okkay to put an airstone, but make sure u set it on very low current. 2-3 bubble per sec. And you can add tetracycline to prevent bacteria infection.

I put in one leaf just now. but he is swimming a lot better now and not just sitting there like before. And he already has floating plants. So i have seen him resting on the roots of those. What i was worried about was how his gills are barely moving. Like he is keeping it clamped.
Do i need to make any changes in his food like decrease to reduce the load or anything like it?

I agree with what everyone else said. He just went into shock.

Some handle baths well, while others do not. The thing to do when it happens is to put them into the second container (the half tank water and half salt) for a minute or two then put them back in their tank.
Since going from fresh, to salt was shocking, so would from salt to fresh. Hence the midway point.

Glad he's doing better, just give him some time!
