I tried my best..I circled for you. As I said he’s very much on the go. I hope you can see it. Light wasn’t the best.

Zoom in I promise you it’s red.

hi your red looks to be normal coloration. Bright red is more common than burgandy/ maroon red especially on royal blue bettas. Wow what cool colors and beautiful fins!
Your ph is fine, stability is more important than actual ph numbers. Your strips are fine for quick checks but the. Api test kits are best/ most accurate and the multitest strips do not include ammonia, the most lethal part of the nitrogen cycle and the first to rise. I won’t restate what others are saying about the nitrogen cycles.

Oh no I was just showing the OP my fish on the red.
yes I agree on a liquid test kit. API Master Test Kit. I wouldn’t mess with pH. Keep us updated on your wonderful boy. He’s gorgeous.

my betta used to grow his tail in blue all of a sudden they’re growing back red.

Well isn’t that interesting! 🤔 ok- we put in more plants and did a water change tonight he seems super happy with the stuff in there. Finally ate some pellets today. Thanks so much - y’all are super sweet. I wish bettas got along with each other- I want to rescue all of them from the pet store.

Referring to your substrate:

This is an aqua soil, meant for heavy plant growth and bright lights, as it is rich in nutrients until worn out and acting like a normal substrate.

You want to vacuum more cautiously and not too rude as the granules can fall apart otherwise.

It is also softening the water and lowering the pH to a certain degree.

So you can leave the pH and do 2-3 water changes per week in the beginning and daily testing according to the Two-Sentence Tutorial for fish-in cycling.

Planting the substrate is a great idea.

We should have bought the bigger tank. (I told my husband to but he insisted it was fine. Now we are hundreds of dollars into this.)

It is and will be a pretty tank for your Betta!

You can even try some stem plants like Hygrophila.

With your Anubias and Windelov Fern just make sure that the rhizome is not burried but only the little roots that are growing from the hard part (rhizome). Otherwise it can foul.

You could also try a floating plant like Amazon Frogbit - Bettas love it and it‘s a sucker for nutrients.

I can’t seem to get him to flare, and the reflection on the tank is ruining things but here’s perhaps a better pic of his fins? Does this still look normal? Also- I have no clue if his fins were clearish like this when we got him. 😬 🤦🏻‍♀️ do they look normal?

That’s what I’m seeing when I search duck duck go…. Also he isn’t eating much. He doesn’t like our snacks we bought him.. blood worms, etc. he’ll eat a pellet or two a day and that’s it.

An update- our betta is doing marvelous and is getting more and more red on his fins, leading me to believe that y’all might just know what you’re talking about! 😜 We moved him into a bigger tank, and it’s full of nature and has cycled and all seems to be going swimmingly. Thank you so much for all of your help! (He’s even eating more now and seems to know exactly who will feed him)
