How much is too much?

I've been a bit curious about this and haven't found an answer anywhere. When it comes to decorations, is it best to kinda crowd the bottom area of the tank and leave the top half open save maybe one or two tall plants? I'm working with a 2.5 gallon so I cut up one of the silk plants I got and made a leaf litter on the bottom, but I want him to still have lots of swimming room. So there's one tall silk plant, his little house, and two parts of a silk plant for him to swim through. There's just a couple marbles here and there. He's active and eats good...this is more just for me :)

Thanks in advance for your opinions...and all the advice in general..everyone around me thinks I'm nuts for loving my fishie so much

I think one consideration in decorating a tank is what water changes you have to do. If you have to do 100% water changes, then it's more work with more things in there.

To me the keys are: lots of room for betta to swim, lots of room for him to breathe at the surface and a good hiding spot. As long as your betta can swim easily around, it's good. :)

with me, it depends on the size of the plants and tank. i try to have at LEAST two plants in every tank(except Cups. he's fine with one plant, as long as it hangs over), but not so many that the betta can hide too easily from me(after what happened to Dante).
