As some of you may know, I got him a few days ago. I'd just like opinions on his weight:

Thanks, it's a bit difficult with feeding because the pellets I have are pretty tiny. They're aqua one pellets but they are so small like tiny crumbs, you can't even get a single pellet out. So I feed him a bit more because they're not really the "standard" size, say, in comparison to a hikari pellet which are much bigger.

I've not heard of Aqua One - first thing I would do would be check the ingredients to make sure he's getting decent nutrition. Are the first 3 ingredients fish ingredients? Is at least the first one?

After confirming he's getting adequate nutrition from what he *does* eat - I'd say just watch his belly as you're feeding. Once it starts to get rounded, stop feeding. The "stomach is about the size of his eye" gauge may be helpful too.

It's a popular brand in Australia. It was either that or Hikari, I was going to get Hikari but it was almost $20 for a small packet, while this one was just a couple dollars. At the time I wasn't too knowledgeable on fish food components and such (and still not too great) but I only checked the protein % and naturally went for the cheaper one (but I guess in this case the more expensive would be more beneficial). These are the ingredients in order:

Fish meal, soyabean meal, wheat meal, wheat flour, yeast powder, krill meal, wheat germ, lecithin, other vitamins, minerals, colourants, fish oil.

Protein is 35%. So I'm not sure but I think the ingredients don't look too great? I also feed him a few frozen bloodworms once a week (ok, I lied, I fed him more than just a few this week, but only because he was new and settling in and I plan to regulate this to just 2 - 3 a week from now on haha).

.....yeah, not too excited about your food there.

Some options to try to find (maybe some other Australians will have ideas so I'm just going with things I know to be decent) New Life Spectrum, Omega One, Attison's Betta Pro.

Hikari is awful too - don't bother with that. If you're looking at crap food and crap food go with the cheaper crap food.

Ok thanks. I will probably have to order online - I haven't seen Omega One or Attison's, and possibly seen NLS but that shop I think I saw it at is further away. The only other one is from Seachem but they're all flakes. I've also seen Tetra but I haven't heard too many good things about that one.

He looks great to me.Very nice!

I agree about the food though,I would definitely recommend NLS Betta formula for him,he will love you for it & he will be much better off with high quality food. You can buy it easily enough here in Australia,a good aquarium/pet store would be able to order it in for you (if they don't already have it) or you can buy it online here too.

Thanks everyone. Today I bought NLS surface feeder formula, since there was no betta fish ones, but I believe the ingredients are pretty much the same.

So a lot of people say to feed until the belly is "nice and round". I am wondering what this looks like though? I mean, could anyone provide before and after pics of feeding their betta? I'm just scared I'll overfeed and I'm not sure if I've seen his belly look round, he looks the same before and after eating, unless I'm just not observing properly enough.
