My wife really wants a piebald one day, and I hope to find her a yellow/warm colored fish since she'd really like a sunset color. We need more room, though, so that's pretty far in the future! Anyway, I'm totally jealous of your fish

I love piebald Betta and Loc always sends me an alert when his shipment comes in and there's a piebald or two. Find a photo online of what your wife wants and I can ask Loc to be on the lookout. Who knows? You may need another tank sooner than you think. :dunno:

I'm wondering if my Cinnabar has some giant genes in his mix, he dwarfs my other 3 but what would a giant betta be doing at Wal-Mart? That's what makes me think he's simply overgrown.

Except for Rooster, all came from the same person. And, except for Rooster and Xanthus, they are all Giant geno and 3"-3.75" body only; caudal not included in length. Not full Giants. I think they might be called Half-Giants but I'm not sure? @indjo

*"Fancy" simply means unlike regular marble Betta they won't change color; pattern is permanent.

What size is expected for a full giant?

 

Mine aren't "pure" Giant (Giant x Giant); that's why I say "Giant geno/genes." It is my understanding Giants are 3" or better. Here's an excellent article. Wish I had a penny for each time I've referenced it.

I have like PetCo 5.5 gallon aquariums. They are in-store-only and by the time I add filter, heater, canopy and light it runs around $70; however, I use a Finnex Stingray light because I have plants. BTW, I also have my larger Betta in an eight, a 20 long and a divided x 3 20 long.

 

Where I'm at, we do not recognize half giants or kings. Any betta with a body size 5.5cm or more is considered a giant. It is said that true giants can have bodies up to 10-12 cm. I can't imagine such size : 6-7cm are already sluggish. How would 10-12 cm become?

I have some old photos. Right now I'm clearing out the tanks of everything except Anubias because of a Duckweed outbreak that took over when we were out of town. Once that's done I'll be posting in my journal....and, perhaps, here.
