Thank you. :)

Feeding is a struggle. We both need practice! I think he might be blind and/or very uncoordinated. And it's hard for me because I'm holding the worm with tongs and touching his mouth with it, and if I hold on too tight, he can't pull it free, but if I hold it too loose and he goes for it and he misses, it falls off the tong and starts descending to the bottom of the tank unless I manage to capture it. He gets the worm when there's the perfect balance of light grip on my part and good aim on his. I'll be as patient as necessary for as long as necessary, but hopefully his coordination improves over time. It must be so frustrating for him!

I love watching him chew; it's so cute (om-nomnomnomnom...) And sometimes he gets these little burp bubbles from his gills.
That sounds cute. He could be going partiouly blind, but his eye dont see it. Hard work on both parts! Gald to see a lil improvemnt

Quick question: (and my apologies if I'm overthinking this; I just really wanna do right by the little guy)

I've been feeding him 3 worms 3 times a day. This weekend I'll be out during the day, so I won't be here to feed him lunch. He's a good sleeper and doesn't eat when he's sleepy, so an evening meal, while I could certainly try, is not likely to be successful. Therefore:

1. I could feed him 4 worms twice in the day to keep him close to his 9 worms, but I worry that 4 worms may be too much at once.
2. I could feed him 3 worms twice in the day to not overwhelm his tummy, but I worry that 6 total worms may be insufficient.

I also worry whether missing a meal during his recovery going to stress him out.

Im also putting weight on my boy and there have been times Ive had to feed him only 2x up to 3-4 worms. You can do 4 and 4 if you’re worried about 6 being insufficient. Ive done 4 and 4 before and my boy seems fine. He didn’t seem too stressed by me missing one of his meals for one day. I hope this helps.

Hi everyone! Hwi seems to be fattening up a bit and its been much easier to feed him lately :) Although he still isn't swimming down away from the surface.

This morning I noticed something strange on him though! It's sort of attached, on his right side, just next to his pectoral fin, in his 'armpit'. It almost looks like an empty worm that got stuck to him? It doesn't seem to be causing him any distress, he's not acting weird about it. I tried tugging at it with the tongs I feed him with to see if something is just stuck to him. He wasn't bothered at all by it being touched, but when I (very gently) pulled, it just dragged him along too, which he also wasn't too flustered by, so I've left it be. What this could be though?! Seems like it doesn't belong there, but I don't want to injure him by pulling it off. If it's bad and needs to go how should I go about removing it without harming him?

Ok, update on this - I was feeding him and decided to give it another gentle tug and most of it came off. There's still kind of a nub but it's not empty-looking/clear-colored like the long dangly bit of it was. I can't tell if it's a fin or what and it's really hard to photograph. With the dangly bit gone it now seems attached closer to his pelvic fin, rather than pectoral.

Again, he doesn't seem distressed by it, but it doesn't look like it belongs.

Another update: Whatever was attached to him yesterday has fallen off. It was so strange!

In different news: His pectoral fins look really nice today! They'd taken quite a hit from the fin rot, which is undoubtedly contributing to his diminished and inefficient swimming. Today they look like there's been some good growth and he's using them more casually when he's just chillin', rather than only when he's going somewhere.

Hahahahahaaaa! What?! Oh my goodness… :ROFLMAO:

I’d never seen it coming out of him before! A couple of times I’d see him swimming away from his leaf bed after a nap, leaving behind what looked like a little pile of poop on the leaf! But that’s all I’ve ever seen. I never knew it would just dangle off of him like that!

Hi all! Hope everyone's fish loves are doing well :)

Hwi is still mostly still mending, except he does still have buoyancy issues. How long should I expect that to be the case? Before he wasn't even trying to swim down, but this week I've seen him attempt to swim downward, but is unable to do so. He still rests sideways (I'd estimate he's 40/60 sideways/upright - a great improvement from 90/10 when he was at his worst!), and sometimes has trouble reorienting his body to face his food when I'm feeding him (i.e. he's often facing the glass, where I can't reach his mouth, so he has to move around to not be facing the glass so I can feed him).

He is very excited to eat though and flutters his ever-growing pectoral fins when I approach him. :)

Eeeeeeeeee!!!!!

Friends! Hwi is swimming below the surface today! For the first time since January! I'm so happy for and proud of him! He's back chilling at the surface now, but he just spent a solid 5 or so minutes exploring the depth of his tank. :-D And he's responding excitedly to my finger when I point at the tank, too.

Ah, as I type he's down there again! He's swimming around so much! :-D My sweet boy! 💖

I‘m so happy to hear that!!
And so glad you were reaching out.

I firmly believe if not for the help I found here he would not still be alive. I cannot thank you enough! 😍
No problem! That’s what we’re here for! This is so exciting and makes me so happy for you and your beautiful boy. I’m so glad you reached out here and we’re able to get updates of you and him too.
