Probably hear this question alot, and do to leaving this betta forum awhile ago, I'm not as fresh with memory  but me and my father love aquariums (he is into saltwater reef tanks and i do Fresh water communities/sororities) and we love shrimps xD I've been looking at the most popular freshwater shrimps "Crystal Red Shrimps" (you can look them up, they're are quite interesting). So my question is, would Crystal Red Shrimp be compatible with Female Betta Splendens?
Since right now, i have a 10 gal sorority with only 4 girls in it and i REALLY want/need a bottom feeder, and these shrimp are vibrantly colored lil' things :)
I kind of want a quick answer, and if possible reasons (xD i love reasons hehe), thank you for your time :-D

Crystal red shrimp don't have a very high success rate with bettas. Also they aren't really bottom feeders. The bettas will end up eating them. They also need large groups (3-6) or the bettas will eat and pick on them (in a 10 gallon that's too many of them) try some ghost shrimp they are cheap so they can be easily replaced. Maybe some Otto catfish, ill tell you what's in my sorority.. Also you might being erected in this Thread: http://www.bettafish.com/showthread.php?t=81403

Well I have a 10 gallon I am upgrading soon
Btw mytankis not overstocked, fish don't die, there is no desiese they are heathy and I check water ph and stuff evrry half a week.

5 female bettas
3 Otto catfish
1 Chinese algea eater
1 mystery snail
1 male guppy
2 unknown live bearer fry
1 african dwarf frog
6 ghost shrimp

My ther comunity betta tank
5 gallons
1 male betta
1 mystery snail
3 female guppies

CRS are much more delicate than Red Cherry Shrimp or Blue Velvet Shrimp. I have RCS and BVS in a divided 20 long with three Bettas and have no problems. However, my tank is very, very heavily planted and has lots of driftwood and Cholla wood and tubes and shrimp towers in all three sections.

That being said, I wouldn't put small shrimp in a sorority. I don't think you'd see them very much. With my shrimp, they only have to worry about one predator at a time; in a sorority they have four+ predators 24/7.

You might try Amanos instead; they are bigger and great algae eaters. Or even Dwarf Orange Crayfish (CPO). Both can better defende themself in a sorority.

You probably already know this, but shrimp need:

1. Stable parameters
2. A mature tank; not a recently-cycled one
3. Lot of live plants
4. Lots of hiding places (Cholla wood works great) as they are extremely vulnerable when they molt.
5. Moss, moss, moss (they hang out in my moss-covered Cholla)

Hopes this helps and welcome back.

Agree great advise.

If you do not care about breeding Amanos are the best. They are very hardy good cleaners and yes larger. I have 2 that are over a year old. They are aggressive at feeding time too or more crazy then aggressors.

My female bettas ate snails, so I'd be wary of keeping them with shrimp. i know they're not all the same, but caution is good. bigger critters like amano shrimp would be good. i would do four or five since their bioload is far smaller than even that of a betta.
if you qre deas set on brightly colored shrimp, you could do far more thsn bettacrab said- 20-30 plus, and they might even breed. the cherry shrimp like Russell mentioned are hardier though, better options maybe than CRS

Okie dokie, thank you guys for the answers and information! ^^
I may start up a tank just for a few shrimps since some reason i have an urge on having some (not until awhile of course), oh indeed i know what shrimps need, I research before getting anything ;-) hehe
And I most likely never seen that thread before

i will look into other and hardier shrimps maybe :) Hopefully i don't end up being a shrimp freak haha, and yes i love vivid natural colors in animals x)

A betta breeder I know once found one of his fish dead. Upon closer inspection he noticed some red sticking out. The betta tried eating an RCS and ended up choking to death on it. RCS are around the same size as CRS so I wouldn't advise it.
