I use them with all my fish not only bettas. South American cichlids, tetras & plecos, anything that lives in acid water gets a leaf or tea. It really makes a difference with the tetras that I keep. Minutes after I drop a rooibos tea bag in ther water the males start spawning circles and the female drop eggs.
I wouldn't recommend them for hard water fish from the African rift lakes.
I'm at the point were a crystal clear tank looks off to me.
I use IAL in all of my tanks and my fish love it. I often find them curled up near the leaves or building bubble nests around them. Tannins are really good for bettas.
I always use IALs for my boys too, they love them to play on and under, with building a bubble nest or sitting on them like a hammock.
The tea colour released by the tannins gives a nice look to their tanks too.The more you add the darker it is of course, and depending how long you leave them in too.I only add 1 per tank and replace them weekly with each water change.
All my bettas have IAL in their tanks. I either break them up, or put them in whole. Leaves floating at the surface make for a great nesting site. My wild bettas show much better colouration and behaviour when I keep their water dark. I find it really brings out the natural iridescence on these fish.
I've been using the rooibos tea now for 2 water changes and my fish seem pretty ok with it. I just got some IAL and started using today after a water change - my two boys: Kennex & Dorian seem a bit confused but excited that there is something that they can push around and hide under. Dorian has been staring at the leaf for about 5 min trying to work out what it is *lol*
Thank you all. I just ordered my first leaves and will share with my grandson who has a community tank. Love learning and that so may are willing to share info
if anyone would like to try this bags you can let me know, I can purchase them and send to you guys. u just need to pay for the cost of the tea bags and also the postage. I will not charge you a single cents. they have the same effect and is faster as well just that no leaf as they have been crashed
I use them also. As they decompose there is supposed to be little microscopic critters that gather on the leaves.
I leave them in the whole time until they dissapear.
I always add IAL when I get a new betta home and acclimated to the quarantine tank, but have a bad habit of forgetting to add a new one once it breaks down/once they move into their final tanks ^^''
